    Q: What can I expect?
A: Everyone at Asbury U.M.C. was new at one time or another, so we remember what is was like. Our Welcome Center is located on the right side of Live Oak Blvd. between the Adult Education Building and the Sanctuary. Our greeters will help you find your way to a Bible Study Class or the Worship Service of your choice. If you have children, you may want to park in the Children's Building parking lot across Live Oak Blvd, here greeters will register your children and help guide them to a learning center or the nursery.

Q: What kind of people are at Asbury?
A: We seek to minister to families of all shapes, types and sizes and include singles, singles with children, traditional families, senior adults, etc. Our church family is made up of a large cross-section of the Lafayette community. Some are life-long Methodists but many others have come into this family through a profession of faith in Christ or from many other Christian denominations.

    Q: What should I wear?
A: Come as you are! Even though we offer a Traditional worship experience in the Sanctuary, casual wear will fit in just fine. In the Spiritwind Contemporary Worship service we are informal as well and very kid friendly.

    Q: Where are you located?
A: We are on the corner of Johnston Street and Live Oak Blvd., in fact Live Oak Blvd. runs through our campus. Turning in from Johnston Street on to Live Oak, you will see our Children's Building, Youth Building and Spiritwind Worship Center on your right and the Adult Education Building, Offices and Sanctuary on your left. "Guest Parking" places are reserved diagonal parking places near the entrances and there is ample parking on both sides of the buildings if these are full.

Q: Why should I consider joining?
A: Membership at Asbury is not about adding your name to a church roll, it about connecting to a family of believers on a shared journey of faith. Come and grow, serve, laugh, worship, sing and journey with us in the Wesleyan tradition of life-long faith development.

    Q: How do I join?
A: Great!  You made the decision; the hard part is over.  You may complete the card in the "How to Join" brochure and bring it to the front of the church at the end of the service as we sing the last song.  You may also call the church office before you jin, and we will complete the card for you.

Q: After joining, what is my next step?
A: We would like all of our members to be involved in a Bible Study group or some sort of small group where they can grow and learn. We offer Sunday School classes for all ages from the nursery through our most senior adults. Lifelong learning and spiritual growth were strongly taught by our founder John Wesley.
"The Path of a Disciple" is a four to six week course offered on Sunday mornings at 9:45. It is designed to orient new members in the Wesleyan understanding of our growth in God's love and grace. Participants will discover how combining spiritual practices with their own unique gifts will transform their lives and the lives of others. After completing the course, you are encouraged to find a Sunday School class to join.

    Q: What about Baptism?
A: Christian Baptism is one of the sacraments of the United Methodist Church. We will be happy to discuss baptizing you or your children as a part of one of our services. Call the church office (337-984-4211) to schedule the baptism and an appointment with one of our pastors to discuss the service and its meaning.
If you have been baptized through another denomination, we as United Methodist recognize most church baptisms, so we do not "re-baptize" you. We believe baptism is a gift from God and we do not control it or use it as a test for membership.
