Q: After joining, what is my next step?
A: We would like all of our members to be involved in a Bible Study group or some sort of small group where they can grow and learn. We offer Sunday School classes for all ages from the nursery through our most senior adults. Lifelong learning and spiritual growth were strongly taught by our founder John Wesley.
"The Path of a Disciple" is a four to six week course offered on Sunday mornings at 9:45. It is designed to orient new members in the Wesleyan understanding of our growth in God's love and grace. Participants will discover how combining spiritual practices with their own unique gifts will transform their lives and the lives of others. After completing the course, you are encouraged to find a Sunday School class to join.

    Q: How do I join?
A: First visit with a pastor after a service or contact the church at 337-984-4211 or by email. They will set up a time to visit with you to answer any questions you may have about the Christian faith, the United Methodist Church and how to get involved and engaged at Asbury. This is not a formal meeting, so they can meet you in their offices, at a coffee shop, at lunch, in your home or wherever works for you.
A simple form is also available in the pew hymnal rack . It indicates how you will be coming to the church; by professing your faith in Jesus Christ, by transferring from another United Methodist Church or by transferring from another denomination. We will present you to the congregation in one of our four morning worship services and you will be welcomed with open arms!

    Q: What about Baptism?
A: Christian Baptism is one of the sacraments of the United Methodist Church. We will be happy to discuss baptizing you or your children as a part of one of our services. Call the church office (337-984-4211) to schedule the baptism and an appointment with one of our pastors to discuss the service and its meaning.
If you have been baptized through another denomination, we as United Methodist recognize most church baptisms, so we do not "re-baptize" you. We believe baptism is a gift from God and we do not control it or use it as a test for membership.

    Q: What can I expect?
A: Everyone at Asbury U.M.C. was new at one time or another, so we remember what is was like. Our Welcome Center is located on the right side of Live Oak Blvd. between the Adult Education Building and the Sanctuary. Our greeters will help you find your way to a Bible Study Class or the Worship Service of your choice. If you have children, you may want to park in the Children's Building parking lot across Live Oak Blvd, here greeters will register your children and help guide them to a learning center or the nursery.

A: Come as you are! Even though we offer a Traditional worship experience in the Sanctuary, casual wear will fit in just fine. In the Spiritwind Contemporary Worship service we are informal as well and very kid friendly.

Q: Why should I consider joining?
A: Membership at Asbury is not about adding your name to a church roll, it about connecting to a family of believers on a shared journey of faith. Come and grow, serve, laugh, worship, sing and journey with us in the Wesleyan tradition of life-long faith development.
